FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQS

• Where are you based and do you travel?

I'm based in Ericeira, just north of Lisbon, Portugal but I love to travel and I´m available to shoot weddings throughout Europe. We also spend a bit of time in Cape Town, South Africa every year, so if you are planning a Cape Town wedding during the summer months (between November and March) please get in touch, we are happy to plan our trip to coincide with your wedding.

• What is an engagement session & why should we do one?

An engagement session is a photo-shoot before your wedding day, generally very relaxed and casual. I include an engagement shoot in most of our wedding packages at no extra cost because it allows me to get to know you and you to get to know me, how I work, what my shooting style is like, and most importantly, for you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. This means that on your wedding day we already know a little bit about each other and you feel more relaxed and natural, which means better photos.

• How long before my wedding should I book my photographer?

The earlier the better! Popular wedding photographers book up very quickly so its best to start looking around and choosing who you would like to work with up to a year in advance. If your wedding is in the peak summer season then definitely don’t leave this decision until the last few months as there is a very good chance the photographer you want will already be booked.

• And what should I look for in a photographer?

The most important thing is that you need to be able to trust your photographer, you need to feel comfortable with them because they’re going to be with you the entire time on one of the most important and emotional days of your life. You may love their work, but if you meet up and you don’t feel a connection of some kind, then it’s probably best to keep looking, because it’s that connection, that sense of confidence in your photographer, that makes the difference between good images and awesome ones. Follow their blog for a while to get a feel for who they are, what kind of people they are, and definitely try to meet up with them before you make your decision.

And once you have decided and booked your photographer, the number one thing that you can do to make sure you your photos live up to your expectations is communicate. Talk to your photographer, tell them what you like and what you don’t, what’s important to you and what isn’t… every couple is different, every wedding is unique so the more information and detail you can share with your photographers, the better the end result will be. Don’t be afraid to flood us with information, we are all about the details and we LOVE it when our couples share the planning process with us!

• So we’ve noticed that your style is a little bit… different, quirky, chopping people´s heads off… plus you guys really seem to love taking photos of feet… what’s that all about?

I am different, and that’s what makes me special. There are so many wedding photographers taking the traditional route that I decided right from the beginning that if I was going to do this, I was going to do it the way that made sense to me, the way that excites me and makes me feel like kids before Christmas as I prepare for each wedding. And I want you to feel the same way about my style, if you look at my work and feel like you know me, if my images grab you by the heart and make you feel like you’ve found something special, then I´m the right guy for you! Plus it helps if you have a foot fetish too…

• What can we expect from you, on the wedding day?

My shooting style is predominantly documentary, I aim to capture the flow of events and tell the story of your day in an informal, unposed way. The only exception to this is the time that I spend with just the bride and groom, generally about half an hour to 45 minutes where we do a session that involves a bit more direction and guidance from me… but even during this session my aim is always to keep things flowing naturally and to avoid too much posing. With regards to family photos, I take my cue from you as to who you would like photos with and I work with you to find the best time to photograph them. This is something that is of more importance to some couples and less to others so I need you to let me know how you would like me to approach this part of the day’s coverage.

• We are interested to see what your albums look like…

Click here to see a range of photos of the albums I offer, plus I always bring sample albums with me when I meet up with clients for the first time, so if you want to see the real thing, give me a call and I can set up a meeting.

• We definitely want to work with you, how do we secure your services?

To book me for your wedding date I require a booking fee which is 50% of your chosen package, as well as a signed contract. Without these 2 things the date is still available for others to book us.

• Do you do video?

I don’t, video is an art form in itself, and requires as much skill, training and practice as photography. I prefer to focus on what I know how to do, do it well… and leave the video to the pros. I recommend VideoartThe Amazing RabbitWedding Stories and Happy Together and Fullcut… all are excellent teams of capable videographers, each with their own individual and original style of capturing a wedding day.

• Can you recommend any other amazing and talented service providers for our wedding?

I definitely can! Working as a wedding photographer means I get to meet many other professionals in this industry and of course there are always those that stand out above the rest… have a look HERE for our favourites.
