If I had to choose one favourite thing in this whole career that I’ve made out of photographing weddings, I would have to say that elopements are it. The first elopement we photographed was in Sintra 7 years ago and at a time when no-one had ever shot an elopement in Portugal, it set the precedent for a series of what have been some of the most fun and laid-back weddings I’ve ever experienced.
Its just you and your favourite person, in an intimate and romantic ceremony in a location that would never be possible for a traditional wedding… a day dedicated to the two of you, without the stress and protocol of a big wedding. I honestly cannot think of a better way to do it.
Jocelyn and Michael liked the urban hustle and bustle and chose an elopement in Lisbon for their special day. We wandered the cobblestone roads of the old town and bought flowers at the local market before taking a ferry boat across the river just before sunset to exchange vows on the southern bank, overlooking the city. Easy, relaxed, personal… perfect.
