Marije & Gui | Trash the Dress

Marije and Gui were one of our couples from last year, you might remember their beach wedding in the Algarve… it was one of our favourites, and it must be a sign that we’re doing something right when past clients come back for more photo-love, like these 2 did! Gui’s parents have a small holiday home/farm in central Portugal with olive trees and every year they come out in full force with friends and family to harvest the olives and produce their own olive oil. We met up with them this year to shoot a trash the dress session with them on the farm and as an added bonus they treated us to a delicious lunch under the grapevines… plus, we even got to learn the secret of Gui’s mom’s famous “Dois Passos” rice, something we had been curious about ever since their wedding! Thank you, guys… for an unforgettable afternoon in great company, we had the best time and can’t wait to see you again! (Next time we’ll make the rice!) Continue reading

Ashton | Trash the Dress

This photo session with Ashton is a perfect example of serendipity and how the world is really a small, small place… She is South African (Capetonian, to be precise) who fell in love with a Portuguese guy, got married and moved here… is this sounding familiar? I first found her via her wedding photos, taken by a friend and colleague, Monique Napier, a Canadian photographer who was living and working in Portugal at the time. From there we got chatting on Facebook, turns out Cape Town is a pretty small place as we even have mutual friends back home, and then when we booked a wedding in the Algarve it was the perfect excuse to meet up and talk about Portuguese life from a foreigners perspective. And of course, we just threw in a trash the dress session, just because it’s what we like to do on a Sunday afternoon… But apart from that, we wanted to show that although the name has stuck (unfortunately) a trash-the-dress session doesn’t mean that you have to, literally, ruin your dress… it can be as crazy (or non-crazy) as you like, it’s all up to you and your imagination…
