O inverno veio de repente este ano. Enquanto o verão tórrido dava lugar a chuvas torrenciais de uma semana para a outra, aproveitámos a oportunidade para brincarmos um bocadinho com uma nova ideia para fotografar que tinhamos andado a guardar para este tempo cinzento. E assim com a ajuda da nossa família maravilha, sempre pronta para esperimentar as nossas ideias malucas, eles fizeram um bolo e nós tirámos as fotos… e os resultados (do bolo e das fotos!) acabaram por serem ainda melhores do que imaginámos! Habitualmente recebemos imensos pedidos para sessões de família em estúdio e as pessoas ficam surpreendidas quando dizemos que não temos estúdio, aliás não vemos necessidade de um, para sermos honestos. A ideia de que para ser um fotógrafo automáticamente significa que se tem que ter estúdio está a ficar um bocadinho fora de prazo… mesmo sendo um estúdio óptimo para muitas coisas, achamos que não conseguimos captar expressões genuínas nas crianças, e o verdadeiro espírito de família num ambiente vazio de interesse em que as luzes, tripés, fundos e acessórios mais se assemelham a uma ida ao dentista, na perspectiva das crianças. Isto é claro a nossa opinião, e provavelmente haverá muitos fotógrafos que discordam, mas como se diz, a variedade é o tempero da vida… cada um faz de maneira diferente, esta é a nossa. Mas cá entre nós, não conseguíamos captar expressões tão expontâneas e naturais como estas que aqui mostramos (ou as fotos de Outono nas vinhas que fizemos com eles o ano passado) se esta sessão fosse num estúdio, sem ter que dirigir ou posar, ou com acessórios sem sentido para atrair a atenção dos pequenos… esta foi uma das mais divertidas e fáceis sessões em família que fizemos, e os resultados falam por si…

Winter came very suddenly this year in Portugal… from hot summer days to torrential rainfall in the space of a week, and we took the chance to play around with a photo shoot idea that we had been saving for just this type of miserable weather. And with our favourite little family always keen to try our crazy ideas, they baked a cake and we took the photos… and the results (of the cake, and the photos!) turned out even better than we had imagined! We often get requests for studio family shoots and people are often surprised to hear that we don’t have a studio, nor do we want one, to be completely honest. The idea that to be a photographer automatically means you must have a studio is becoming a little bit outdated… and while studios are great for many things, we don’t really feel that you can authentically capture the spirit of children, and family life, in the empty (and to a child, pretty scary) dentist-like environment of a studio. This is, of course, just our opinion, there are most likely many photographers who would say we are wrong, but then variety is the spice of life… they do things their way, and we do things ours. But I think you would have a hard time in studio getting such natural and spontaneous expressions such as the ones in the photos below (or in the Autumn vineyards shoot we did with them last year)… without having to pose, or direct, or wave silly toys around to either attract or distract their attention… this was one of the easiest, and funniest family shoots we’ve done, and the results speak for themselves…
