Lucia, João and their friends & family came from all over the world to our little corner of Portugal to celebrate their wedding, and we´re definitely glad they did because we absolutely loved working with these 2 lovebirds. These guys have a special something, like a secret language, a lightness of spirit… it´s difficult to define or describe in words… but it makes them a joy to photograph and it´s also really clear that they´re crazy about each other. We adored this wedding, the laid-back atmosphere, the beautiful setting… and especially Lucia´s family who kept trying to ply us with their special brand of Romanian vodka throughout the cocktail party… I had the excuse of being on antibiotics but Luis didn´t get away so lightly!! Thank you João and Lucia, for being the amazing people you are and for making us a part of your wedding day… we wish you all the best for your future travels and hope to see you again in Portugal sometime. xxx
Robyn and Nicky are another couple who have fallen in love with the sun and the sea of this beautiful country and spend as much free time here as they can. They came out from Ireland with family and friends to celebrate their wedding in true Irish style… with lots of love and happiness, laughter and dancing. And even though we´re not religious, we couldn´t help but be moved by Father Joe´s sermon during the ceremony… he spoke of God being all around us, in the waves of the ocean and in the beauty of nature that surrounds us, and that the Catholic church too often makes the mistake of confining God within the walls of the church… when in fact he is everywhere. It was, without a doubt, the most touching religious ceremony we have ever witnessed and can´t help but feel that Robyn and Nicky have a very special friend in Father Joe. Thank you both for including us in this wonderful day, we wish you much happiness in your future adventures and hope to see you again soon in Ericeira! Continue reading →
Annie and Jason… where do I even begin? Their wedding was our first one of 2013 and was certainly a day we will never forget. They first contacted us last year to see if we were available for their wedding, they explained that it was just going to be the 2 of them, an elopement of sorts, and as we chatted about their plans for the day we knew immediately that this was going to be a wedding unlike any we´d photographed before. Neither of them had been to mainland Portugal before but had been following our blog for a while and fell in love with the country through our eyes… which is a pretty big compliment in itself, but the cherry-on-top was when they asked us to pick the location of their ceremony, as they trusted our vision and knew we would find the best spot. No pressure!! You guys, this doesn´t happen very often… that the photographers get to pick the ceremony location, and it was an opportunity we weren´t going to waste! Months of location scouting ensued, to the point that people though we´d moved to Lisbon due to our Instagram feeds being full of scenic cityscapes but finally it was in the magical town of Sintra that we found the perfect place… the chapel ruins in the gardens of the Monserrate Palace. It’s no secret that we love the Alentejo… the wide open spaces, the rolling hills and lone trees on the horizon… and the light, I could go on and on about the light, but suffice to say that the light in this part of the country is an amazing thing. But the thing is, very few people outside of Portugal know anything about this unique region of Southern Europe. If I were to say “Tuscany” or “Provence” you would all know immediately what I was talking about… and then you would all “ooh” and “aah” and say how amaaazing those places are, how the food is just to die for, how the landscape is the most beautiful you’ve ever seen. And of course, you would be right on all counts, because those are truly gorgeous parts of the world. But everything that those places have… the food, the wine, the culture, the architecture, the cute little old ladies in traditional clothing… the light, again! The light! All those things that Tuscany and Provence are famous for, the Alentejo has too… except for the high prices… and the hordes of tourists. Continue reading →

Regina and Mikkel are another one of those couples… you know the ones I mean, the kind of couple who you just click with, who really gets you, who are totally on the same wavelength. The kind of couple whose wedding doesn’t even really feel like work because everyone is just so lovely and easy-going… a small wedding with friends and family from all over the world, an outdoor ceremony in the late afternoon, the ocean as the backdrop… just perfect! These two have had an ongoing love affair with Portugal for many years now and it was their great love for “pork and cheese” (another thing we have in common!) that brought them back again for a destination wedding in Estoril, just outside of Lisbon. A wedding in November always comes with the possibility of rain, but we were lucky… this was our last wedding for 2012 and we undoubtably finished on a high note… thank you Regina and Mikkel for sharing your day with us, for making us feel like part of the family. We had a fantastic time with you guys and hope to see you here again many times in the future! Continue reading →
Inês & Simon live in Switzerland and came to Portugal (where Inês is from) for their wedding for the same reasons that many other couples do… beautiful locations, great food… sunshine and hot summers. But they took their destination wedding a step further, and taking advantage of the fantastic weather they did everything outdoors… ceremony, dinner and dancing… and it was, in a word: Amazing. It might require a bit of faith and lots of finger-crossing that the weather co-operates, but if it does (and it did!) the results are well worth the extra effort and planning. Their ceremony took place in the late afternoon under the trees at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs hotel in the Algarve and was followed by dinner under the stars and dancing at the beach-bar right on the water. It was a beautiful wedding and we feel lucky to have been a part of it all… thank you Inês and Simon, for sharing your day with us. Continue reading →
João is from Portugal and Yvonne is Australian with Malaysian heritage… so what do you do when your family and friends are spread around the world? You have more than one wedding! 3 weddings, to be precise… the “official” one in Melbourne, Australia followed by a wedding in Malaysia for Yvonne´s side of the family and then a castle wedding in Portugal for João´s family and friends. By the time they got to the Portuguese wedding they had had loads of practise and it was a very relaxed and informal affair, no stress or dramas… just a small group of close family and friends, some of whom made the trip out from Australia. The venue blew our minds just a little bit… an outdoor ceremony in the ruins of a medieval castle is just about the most beautiful place ever to get married… our wedding couples are always so stylish and original, aren´t they? Thank you Yvonne and João for inviting us to be part of you wedding day, it was an absolute pleasure to work with you guys and we wish you much love and happiness back home in Australia… or wherever else in the world your adventures take you.
